If troubleshooting a communication issue, reconnect the data cable (not applicable to WiFi, Bluetooth or Infrared). Unplug the printer's power cord for approximately 10 minutes, and then plug it back in.Disconnect the data cable from the printer (not applicable to WiFi, Bluetooth or Infrared).Turn the printer off with the Power button (if available).I don't have a definitive answer for you and the following are only guesses. Now select (click on) "Device Disconnect" and you should see "Windows Hardware Remove.wav" click the "Play" button to listen. After you select "Device Connect" you should see "Windows Hardware Insert.wav" under Sounds click the "Play" button to listen to the sound effect. In the "Program Events" window, scroll down until you see "Device Connect" and click on that to select it.Go to Control Panel and set the view (upper right corner) to "Small icons".If you aren't sure of what you're listening for, you can hear the sound effects as follows: You should hear the two-tone "Device connect" sound. With the printer connected to your computer, turn off the printer. In my reply to your question about "offline" status, I asked if you hear the sound effects when you connect the printer.

Older versions of the drivers may not provide full functionality on new computers. The printer will continue to work with OSX 10.10 Yosmite or earlier, and will function as a fax and photocopier regardless of operating system. This model was retired prior to the release of Macintosh OS 10.13 High Sierra, and no drivers have been written for the new operating system.
